Ana C. Reyes was born in 1974 in Montevideo, Uruguay. As a child, she moved to Spain before immigrating to Louisville, Kentucky. When she arrived in the U.S., Ana Reyes faced the challenge of learning English, with the help of her first-grade teacher. Decades later, in 2020, Ana Reyes reunited with that teacher, gaining media attention.

Ana Reyes pursued higher education at Transylvania University, graduating summa cum laude in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science. She then worked for the Feminist Majority Foundation before attending Harvard Law School, where she became an editor of the Harvard Law Review and competed in the Ames Moot Court Competition.
