Juan Ponce Enrile full name Juan Valentin Furagganan Ponce Enrile Sr., widely known as JPE, was born on February 14, 1924, in Gonzaga, Cagayan, Philippines. He was the son of Petra Furagganan and Alfonso Ponce Enrile, a prominent Spanish mestizo lawyer and provincial politician. Born out of wedlock, Enrile was initially named Juanito Furagganan and was baptized into the Philippine Independent Church (Aglipayan). At age 20, he converted to Roman Catholicism. He was later reunited with his father in Manila and completed his secondary education at Saint James Academy in Malabon, Rizal.
