How Nigerians Can Renew US Visa In Another Country Not Home Country In 2024

In this case, we will be referencing The Dominican Republic, and our Consular would be situated in Santo Domingo.

Just like every US visa, you must complete your DS 160 Form. Put in the necessary information you have with you as contained either in your I-20 or your Work Authorization document and Passport. If you have a social security number, don't forget to incorporate it into your application.

> You must have a valid visa yet to expire before starting this process. As you can see on the visa picture above, the one from Nigeria was yet to expire before I embarked on this renewal.

> The second stage is scheduling an appointment on the US travel doc. At this point, I will advise that you do this through the “Country” embassy web page specifically for the Dominican Republic. Look for the country of your choice, specifically the Dominican Republic. Select and create an account. You might want to create a new Gmail address because it might not accept your existing or affiliated email address.

> FYI, those interested in applying for theirs in Canada or Mexico will not need to schedule an appointment through “US travel doc”; note there is a different site, like a Google form app, for that. Check the US embassy if you are interested in that.

> I sincerely would encourage you to use The Dominican Republic because they have many slots for Visa appointments, and you don't need to pay through anyone or have to visit a bank in the country to make payments like you would have done in the case of Mexico. So, any day, anytime, I will advise you to use Santo Domingo, The Dominican Republic.

> The next step is to pay your visa fee (185$) using the options of cards on the site. Use your debit or credit card. Before making payments, you will see the earliest appointment dates available.

> Pay attention to these details, especially when scheduling an appointment. The visa process takes two days, which differs from what we have in Nigeria. There is a VAC (Visa Application Center)  date where you have your photograph taken and biometrics captured. Now, read carefully again; you must carefully select your dates if you intend to do this within two or three days. I will advise you to target dates on Sundays. Why? You can have your biometric on a Sunday and do your visa interview on Monday.  What is different?

> In one cases, a lady didn't know, and she targeted March 21; she didn't realize that they have different days for VAC and Visa interviews. So, she ignored the earliest visa appointment on the dashboard, which says March 28th. This made her have her VAC on 21, and then she had to wait till March 28th to have her visa interview. However, she said she didn't feel bad because she had booked her flight earlier to return to the US on the 28th of March. She wanted a vacation.
